INXS Kick free essay sample
If I had to describe INXSs breakthrough album, ââ¬Å"Kick,â⬠in one word, it would be ââ¬Å"funky.â⬠Each song throbs with a dance beat, moving listeners to their feet. ââ¬Å"Kickâ⬠propelled Australian band INXS to superstardom back in 1987, winning them acknowledgment and hit singles. And its no wonder ââ¬â every track is upbeat and danceable, even the weakest. The album opens with ââ¬Å"Guns in the Sky,â⬠in which vocalist Michael Hutchence grunts and groans over a pounding drum track. As soon as the infectious guitar riff hits, its impossible to keep from nodding to the beat. Next is ââ¬Å"New Sensation,â⬠an uplifting track with jangly guitars that was the albums third single. Indeed, ââ¬Å"Kickâ⬠seems to thrive on its singles, certainly living up to guitarist/ saxophonist Kirk Pengillys hopes that every song would be perfect for à airplay. ââ¬Å"Devil Insideâ⬠is undeniably the sexiest song here. ââ¬Å"Mystifyâ⬠contains an almost folksy piano riff and spot-on guitars, as well as some of the sweetest lyrics for a lover. We will write a custom essay sample on INXS: Kick or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page ââ¬Å"Need You Toà night,â⬠the bands first number-one single in America, is perfect for dirty dancing, with its driving drumbeat and catchy guitar hook. ââ¬Å"I need you tonight, cause Im not sleeping,â⬠Hutchence sings. However, all of these tunes pale in comparison to ââ¬Å"Never Tear Us Apart.â⬠Its string arrangement and convincing lyrics make it one of the best love songs ever. Looking past the singles, ââ¬Å"Kickâ⬠doesnt have much else. With the exceptions of ââ¬Å"Guns in the Skyâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Tiny Daggers,â⬠every other song is filler and, for the most part, forgettable. This is especially true for ââ¬Å"Calling All Nations,â⬠which contains some cringe-worthy lyrics. Overall, ââ¬Å"Kickâ⬠is a solid album, but despite its fame, this is definitely not INXSs best. (That title would arguably go to their 1984 effort, ââ¬Å"The Swing.â⬠) This album is worth buying even if the singles are all you want, but the rest would only be recommended for hardcore ?s fans. Though ââ¬Å"Kickâ⬠has not aged too well for teens of today, it remains the perfect party album.
